Happy Halloween

Filed under: General — Craig @ 5:49 pm

Well it’s pretty obvious from the title what day it is.

After last years introduction to a deluge of Trick or Treaters, I stocked up on treats this year, and guess what?
It’s 7pm and I’ve only had one polite Ninja to the door.

Here I am with hundreds and I mean literally, hundreds of lollies, and my first beneficiary is so polite he only takes one.  Of course I urged him to take a handful, which he tentatively did, I even tried to get him to take two handfuls, but he politely thanked me and kept going.
Dammit!  I can’t even give these treats away.  *laugh*

I guess we now live in a quieter neighbourhood.

Oh well, I’m going back out the front for a while to see if I can dish out some sugary goodness.  The kids get treats, and my trick is sending home children to their parents juiced to the eyeballs on sugar.

Love it!

Oh, and I forgot to mention.  My friend Alex recently gave us some 100% cacoa chocolate that he “didn’t like’.  Thanks.  I tried it, and didn’t like it either.  So I’ve mixed it into the bowl of candy for the trick or treaters.  *evil grin*
A little trick or 12 amongst the treats.  *giggle*

Unpleasant dreams ;)

Home Sweet Home

Filed under: General, Moving — Craig @ 10:05 pm

Well, for now anyway…

Tonight is the first time we’ve been home before 7pm in weeks.

We decided to have an early night, lit the fire, and settled in to catch up on some television watching, and it could have been more relaxing.

I’ll say one thing for the new house, even filled to the ceiling with boxes, it’s more comfortable and homely than the last one was.

We can finally feel settled, even the pets are more relaxed.

Right now though, it’s time for bed.

Cheerio.

The end is in sight

Filed under: Family & Friends, General, Movies, TV & Books — Craig @ 8:57 pm

Well for now it is anyway…   There’ll be another move in the future.  There always is.

Today has been awesomely busy.  I woke at 5am to get to the gym to have breakfast before working out.  As excessive as that sounds, you have to remember I’ve just moved house, and the movers didn’t label any boxes, they also placed everything in random places around the house, so for the time being, we have no idea where the crockery, silverware, glassware etc is.  So to make life easier, I got to the gym earlier and had them make my protein shake for me.

An hour with my trainer later, and I was back in the car, on the way home to the new house, an epic 3 minute drive, to pick up Mark, and then head to the old house 15 minutes away.

Once at the old house, we packed up the TiVo which had been merrily recording all our selected television programs in our absence, grabbed the last of the cleaning items, and while Mark searched the backyard for miscellaneous dog toys, I vacuumed the last few rooms of the house and mopped the floors, before finally locking the door, for what should be the last time, although truth be told, I’ll be back tomorrow for one final “paranoid check” to see we’ve not left anything behind.

Home again, while Mark was “faffing” around setting up the TiVo and cable box in readiness for the technician to connect properly this afternoon, I grabbed the dog leads, and took the dogs for their first ever run, that’s right RUN, around the block.
Vita loved it, she’s always pulling on her lead to go faster, today she had her freedom, only I don’t think either of them expected to go as far as they went.  That being said though, once they got home, although tired, they did look rather surprised that the event was shorter than a normal walk as far as duration.  That didn’t last long though, as they both dashed for their water bowl and their comfy bed for a nap.  All tuckered out.

Dog walking over, I dropped Mark at work, then returned home for a hot shower, short nap, and then started sorting out the downstairs living room.  Just in time for the Technician to arrive, who was one of those horrible people that won the genetics raffle and was too good looking for his or my sake.  *laugh*

The outcome…  We have an active Internet, Cable TV and phone line again, and the technician left in one piece and unmolested.  Shame!  ;)

More sorting, and unpacking, and setting up of the pets.  Who have started to forgive me again for their recent upheaval, and then it was off to bowling.  Where quite frankly in the first game I was pretty good, but in the second, I sucked!  Third, I sort of redeemed myself…  Oh well.

Speaking of bowling…  I had an interesting conversation with a friend, who’s name rhymes with “Schmeff” but who shall remain otherwise nameless… *laugh*  About what he’d been up to recently.

His reply was that he’d taken his Mac PC to a friends house where they both upgraded their machines together.  The nerds equivalent of girls night and plaiting each others hair.  Very amusing!  Fortunately he saw the funny side of my view of his activities too.  *laugh*

So that’s it.  I’m back online.  I have email again on a more regular basis, but as I type this, my laptop is balanced on the box that the printer was shipped in.  Guess I’d better put my desk back together in the very near future.

I’m off to bed now, have a great day/night, whatever.

The end is near

Filed under: General, Moving — Craig @ 12:49 pm

We’ve been flat out all morning finalising the last of the moving and cleaning of the old house, and fortunately, it’s almost done.

One or two more items to go, nothing major, just really mopping the floor and we’ll be able to lock the door FINALLY.

Can’t wait.  Even with the new house being packed to the eyeballs with boxes it’s a much more homely feeling house than this one ever was.

Ok, best dash, I’ve got 2 hours of racquetball to play in 10 minutes and I still have to go and get changed.

See, I spare no efforts getting a blog entry out to you all… ;)

Just when I thought it was over

Filed under: Family & Friends, Moving — Craig @ 3:37 pm

We hired a van this morning for the last few remaining items that need to be picked up from the old house.

Last few…  Ha!  Or so I thought, on closer inspection we discovered that the movers had in fact neglected to pack any of our bakeware or pots and pans.  Something that due to the absolute rush (thanks to their being 4 hours late) I overlooked.

So where I thought today would be a relatively short day involving the retrieval of a few smaller items, clothes and the dog kennel, it’s going to be a long evening.

Argh!  Have I mentioned I hate moving lately?

Oh well, best get back to it.

But!  Before I do.

Happy Birthday to my Nan!  Who is turning “Gorgeous” years old today!  Love you lots Nan and wish I could be there for your birthday but we’ll have a belated celebration early next year when I come home for a visit.  *kisses*

24 hour re-hash

Filed under: General, Moving — Craig @ 1:59 pm

Wow, in a little over 24 hours so much has happened.

Firstly and most importantly, things haven’t gotten quite so desperate yet that I’ve had to resort to Internetting from Starbucks.  The connection is still working at the old house, so for the time being I can stand at the kitchen bench and type from there.  Not quite ideal, but certainly beats a Starbucks! ;)

Ok, the brief rundown, as I’ve still got a few things to do.

The movers were a good 4 hours late, and understaffed for a large portion of the time they were here.  Lots of drama ensued, and I got to go “cyclonic” with my tools collection.  The movers that were here kept whispering about how much work there was.  While I kept thinking “Guys, I’m right here, I can hear you…  I may have an accent but it’s still ENGLISH!”  Of course while they were whining I disassembled all the desks, bedroom suite and other assorted items, and packed a lot of stuff that they were initially supposed to.  Oh well.  Ultimately though, when they finally did get going they did a great job.  That is until they realised their time constraints and had to work through their lunch breaks.  Poor dears.  Completely lacklustre.  So after a quick dash to the Supermarket I came back bearing Coke and Donuts.  Having juiced them all to the eyeballs on sugar again, work moved a lot smoother.

Of course, with the late start, our plans to have dinner and then go to the theatre in Seattle to see Spamalot were looking pretty shakey.  Fortunately I had packed a change of clothes and toiletries separately.
Also a call to Mark at work to tell him to get the bus home (we’re really close now!) and to take over as supervisor while I changed got things moving a little faster.  A little, not much.  *stares at Mark*

The biggest saviour…  Jeff!  Despite our best efforts there was absolutely no way we were going to make it to Seattle in time.  The truck was still half full, and a lot of unpacking had to continue.  Jeff very kindly (a thousand thankyou’s and more to follow) acknowledged my request for help and supervised the remainder of the unpacking and locked the house up for us, allowing us to get into Seattle in time.

Jeff and my snazzy (read fast, safe, but fast driving, along with a stint in the 3+ transit late, as a *shock horror* car containing only 2+ people) got us in to town in time.  We still had to run a block or so, well we didn’t have to, but with my new found energy and fitness I “had” to.  So I did.

The show (Spamalot if you’ve forgotten) was fantastic, and if you’ve not seen it yet, I urge you to do so.  We also got to meet up with another Jeff, a new friend I’d made who actually works on the lighting team for the show while it’s on the road across America, and he gave us a behind the scenes tour after the show.  Awesome!  After which we grabbed a bite to eat, and a drink.  I had my first martini since early March.  It was so good I followed it with another one! ;)

So that’s it.  That was yesterday in a few paragraphs.

Today started with early morning gym sessions, which to be honest I wasn’t overly enthused about as I was and still am, pretty tired from yesterday.
While there I got to partake in a conversation with a female trainer who asked why I didn’t work with her.  To which I responded “because I want to be the pretty one, and you’d spoil that”, she laughed and then pointed out that my current trainer Aaron, has quite the following of salivating women, and probably some men.  It’s true, he’s a handsome devil, married but handsome.  At which point another client pointed out that “all the good men are either married or gay”.  I laughed and replied “nothing wrong with that”.  Much to her horror of course, fortunately though I laughed as did the other trainer before pointing out that, that actually worked in my favour, not theirs.  We did all agree though that we could point out the “good ones” to each other and enjoy them mutually.
That is what you call a “win-win situation”.  *grin*

Ok, that’s enough, I have to get back to moving the last straggler items, and relocating the pets to the new house.

Have fun!

Moving Day

Filed under: Moving — Craig @ 6:25 am

Well it’s the morning of the big move.

It’s not quite 7.30am yet, and the movers are expected to arrive in the next 30 minutes, so I’d better haul ass and unplug my computer.

That also means that I’ll be without an Internet connection of sorts for a few days until the cable company reconnects us at the other end.  Bummer!
I have my phone to access, but lately it’s not been letting me post blog entries.  So I apologise in advance if I don’t post on the day it’s due.

Guess I’ll be hitting the coffee (I use the term loosely) houses in the area for free Wi-fi.

Hooroo and see you at the other end.

One more sleep

Filed under: Moving — Craig @ 8:16 pm

It’s all happening in the morning.  I’ve not quite accomplished as much as I’d like to have, but at least the Removalists will be earning their money.

There are boxes everywhere again, and there’s bound to be more tomorrow.

The gardens are only half done.  The gardeners were here this morning and were rained out, so I’m hoping they come back too.

Nite nite.

Not quite a magic wand

Filed under: Moving — Craig @ 2:10 pm

But a phone call can make all the difference.  As of this morning I have a U-Haul truck parked in my driveway which I’ve been ambitiously loading with our earthly possessions in preparation for our move from Kirkland to Redmond.

I can’t begin to impress on you just how unexcited I am by the entire process.  I’d much rather be having dental work performed sans anaesthetic.

Anyway… Back to the truck.  The initial aim was for me to move as much of our belongings myself, and leave the heavy lifting to the professionals.  I’ve made several enquiries both via the phone and Internet to get quotes.  All have been pretty good, the last one was the best.  Primarily as for a small additional fee they’ll not only move our items, but they’ll pack them too.

SOLD!  Where do I sign!

Not only do they provide the additional service, but when I asked what days they had available, and noticed that one was this Thursday (day after tomorrow), and asked for it and got it, I was very happy.

So there you have it.  One phone call this morning, got me an on-site quote, and a move in the next 48 hours, leaving me enough time to sort out the change over of houses.

YAY!  Now I can relax a little.  Not much, but a little, and every little bit helps.  Of course once it’s all completed, and if all goes well, which I’m sure it will, I’ll say nice things about them.

Hope you’re all having a great day, and not too shocked that I’ve posted a little earlier than I have of late. ;)

Cheers!

Almost a pumpkin

Filed under: General — Craig @ 10:58 pm

Dammit, the day has flown by and it’s mere minutes to midnight and I’ve not blogged yet.

So here it is…  Short, sweet, but a text based entry.

I woke, worked out, slept, bowled, won, blogged, and now I’m off to bed. ;)

Nite nite!
