All I want for Christmas is…

Filed under: Check it out, Family & Friends, Musings — Craig @ 10:07 am

… my two front teeth, so I can wish you Merry Chrithmath!

The best part is, that even though it is a day late, I get two new front teeth today!  Yay!

Many, many, many moons…  or, a long time ago, I tripped breaking my front teeth.   So for a very long time I’ve had a less than fantastic repair.

Today, I get two brand spanking new crowns.  So, for the first time since I was 13 (21 and a bit years) I’ll have decent teeth again, rather than an obvious repair to one, and another that’s a fraction too long.  Admittedly pretty much noone noticed, except me, and that was enough.

I started the preparation for new crowns a few weeks ago, and currently have a solid plastic tooth, one tooth, made to look like two (molded) that has been glued over my original teeth that have been ground down into “posts”.  Think Bugs Bunny, and you’ll start to get an idea.
Functionally it looks ok, as far as it feels…  Well that’s another matter, for the first week as I got used to it, it felt like having a rubberband wound tightly around my teeth pulling them together, not all together unpleasant, but not pleasant either.  Oh, and my speech has altered ever so slightly.  I have (until later this morning) a slight lisp.  Argh!  Keep your jokes to yourself.  I’m already aware of the stereotype involving a lisp. :P

Today it all ends.  I’ll be back in the chair in a little under 90 minutes, then will start the injections (not a fan still!) and god only knows what to remove the temporary crowns for the final pristine ones to go in.  Joy and Rapture!

Once that’s all done, I’ll start the contemplation and consultation process to move forward with correcting my teeth’s alignment in possible preparation for the big event.  To have my jaw broken, re-aligned so I can actually bite properly.

A lesson to the children out there.  When your parents tell you not to jump on the bed, it’s for a good reason.
When I was about 4 or 5 my sister and I were jumping on the bed at my Grandmother’s house.  While I was mid jump my sister pushed me, I bounced sideways and came down, chin first on my Nan’s writing desk.  Hey presto!  Fractured jaw, off-set bite.  Essentially, my back teeth touch when I bite.  My front teeth don’t.
Quite some time ago a not so clever dental assistant asked me if I was having trouble eating.  I, being overweight at the time, said “Do I look like I’m having any problems?”.  The conversation ended…  LOL!

Gotta run, I’ve a smile and a normal speech pattern to get.

Hooroo!

  4. Okay, I was with you until the mention of breaking things for resetting. OUCHY OUCHY.

And you’re right, I never noticed your teeth, but then I’ve got my giant gap in my teeth so tend not to look at other people’s teeth.

I hope it all went well (the new teeth part) and you are happy with your new chompers.

  5. Thanks and LOL!
It wasn’t quite as bad as I initially expected. It’ll all work out for the best in the end. :D
