Once every four years

Filed under: Family & Friends, General — Craig @ 4:56 pm

It’s February 29th, the Leap Year, the one year in four where February has an extra day, and a beautiful day it was too.  Sunshine and blue skies, it actually felt like the kind of day that Washington has once every four years.  ;)
That’s not entirely fair.  The weather has been steadily improving each day.  It’s still cold, but today was the first day in a long while that I’ve not had to turn the heater on.  Although, I haven’t been home much today at all either.

As per every Friday, we both woke early to get to the gym.  Mark has the 8.30 session, and I have the 9.30, we share a trainer.   Then it was home, shower, shave, dress and off to catch up with some friends for a coffee or two and to take advantage of the sun.  One of my rare outings into the outside world away from the gym and racquetball courts.

Thanks Jim and Dustin.

But, now it’s time to go get Mark from work, then head out again for dinner.

Oh, if you thought I was going to explain the significance of the extra day in February; Leap Year.  Nope, if you want that sort of info, you can Google it! ;)

Themed Sex Dolls

Filed under: Humour & Jokes — Craig @ 7:55 pm

Allo you lot!  As always, when I resort to sharing a joke, it’s generally because I’m too lazy to type something more substantial.  So a big THANKYOU to those of you who send me funnies from time to time…

Today’s offering is from the lovely Tracey…  I’ve edited it ever so slightly so that I don’t receive death threats from psycho’s like I did when I shared the themed Barbie doll email several months back.  There’s a fool out there threatening to have his legal people contact mine….

*laugh*  Good luck with that.  Shall I pencil you in?   Hmmm… perhaps a crayon date might be safer for everyone.

Back to it…  Here you go, and enjoy!

A guy goes into an adult bookstore and asks for an inflatable sex doll.
The guy behind the counter says, “Male or female?”
Customer says, “Female”.
Counter guys says, “Black or white”?
Customer says, “White”.
Counter guy says, “Civilian or Terrorist”?
Customer says, “What the hell does that have to do with it”?
Counter guy says, “The Terrorist one blows itself up”!

Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all night.  ;)

Cheers!

Game, Set, OUCH!

Filed under: Family & Friends, General — Craig @ 7:57 pm

Ok, the day started with me being STILL sore from yesterday’s workout, that “good sore”, but sore nonetheless.
So when I head back to the gym for racquetball this morning, it was a little gingerly…

Then the game started, I forgot my pains and really got into it.  It was a tight game, both of us (my friend Charles) winning points and serves, with the scores being neck and neck.

… and then it happened…  In running for a shot, I planted my foot sideways on the lacquered floors, my shoe sole stuck, my ankle rolled sideways, and my bare right knee hit the floor boards, and made a horrible squealing sound.  Thing car tyres braking suddenly…

My first friction burn in a very long time.  It’s a very impressive red and scabby vision right now, and the most shocking part is, that I think it’s probably the most painful injury I’ve ever had.  *laugh*  It’s certainly not a drastic one, but OUCH!

Oh well, at least I won that game, even if I lost the last two.  There’s always tomorrow.  10am to be precise. ;)

23 Sleeps to go!  Woohoo!

A new day

Finally, home.  As always Monday starts with a workout with my trainer and ends with bowling.

This week is different.  Today was my first training session as a graduate of the 20/20 Lifestyles Fitness Program that I started in April last year.  Almost a year of exercise, improved diet, and I’m a changed man.  For starters, there’s less of me.

It might be over officially, but I’m going to keep on with it, including continuing to work with my trainer.  The balls only just gotten rolling.

Speaking of rolling…  Look at me with a segue!

Back to the bowling, I’m not sure what happened, or what lucky elf was with me tonight, but I managed to bowl 8 strikes in a single game.  Wow!  It may have looked like some of them were intentional, and far be it from me to dissuade anyone from thinking otherwise, but there was a great deal of luck with a few of them.  No complaints from me though.  I’m pretty happy.

Happy, and tired.  It’s time to wind Monday up and get ready for Tuesday.

Night all!

Cinematic flashback

Filed under: General — Craig @ 8:39 pm

Another weekend is drawing to a close, and today, weather wise has been brilliant.  All blue skies and sun, a very welcome change.

After a relatively slow start to the day, which is completely allowable being Sunday and all, we drove into Seattle so that Mark could go and see Tron in 70mm on the big screen at Cinerama.  After a shakey start, the movie started without sound, then sound was restored and there was no picture…  We joked that this may primarily have been due to the guy in the projection booth being so young he’d probably never heard of a film projector, and was probably trying to “reboot” it, rather than thread it…  The movie got started, we missed the first 5 minutes, but Mark, being the Nerd (capital N is appropriate!) narrated us all through.  He even managed to supply part of the missing dialogue in the beginning when the soundtrack wasn’t playing.

To give you an idea.  Mark can be officially quoted as stating that Tron is the reason he became a Software Engineer (Computer Programmer).  In fact he’s so hard core about the film that when he overheard someone talking (and they were joking) that the animation and CGI were pretty funny, he exclaimed “They’re pretty good for 1982!”.
Wow!  Such passion!  I gently pointed out that the comment was ironic, and that he could step down of his soapbox.  *laugh*

You had to be there.  It was a complete Nerd-fest, but admittedly, it was a bit of retro/vintage fun.  I enjoyed the movie as a kid, and there were quite a few parents there introducing their own children to the “Tron experience”.

Time to go now though, another night brings me another day closer to our departure date.  Not long now! :)

Take me to the river

Filed under: General, Pets — Craig @ 10:10 pm

Not just me, the dogs went to.  Today was another doggie adventure day.  This time though I dragged Mark along as well.

The dogs had a few more swims in the river.  Swims aided by myself.  I pick them up, and drop them in.  They’re not overly excited about going in, but once they’re wet they bounce around all excited and rejuvenated.  The only problem is monitoring them long enough that they dry before they get a chance to roll in the dirt.  Of course, they generally do, and then it’s straight back in the river with them.
It’s like shampoo.  Rinse and repeat! ;)

It was just too nice a day to be stuck inside the house all day.  Although we did go home to watch movies, but at least we got some sun first.

Gotta go, the “pause” function only lasts so long.

NOT TGIF!

Filed under: Family & Friends, Travel — Craig @ 9:58 pm

Man, another week has flown by.  I’m really starting to question how I managed to hold down a career, study part time, maintain a house and yard and still have time for a social life, when now that I’m not working, the day flies past in the blink of an eye.

It’s insanity.  The reality is it’s time management, but now that I have so much time…  Well…

It’s a little under four weeks now that I depart on the epic journey to two weddings and to become an Uncle twice over, and if that’s not good enough, I get to catch up with all my family and friends.

I’m positively moist with excitement!

…now on that visual…  I’m outta here.

The Six Million Dollar Cat

Filed under: Pets — Craig @ 7:30 pm

They have the technology, they can rebuild him…

Well not really, but they have a pretty nifty maintenance program.

It was another day at the vet for Mulder and I today.  He initiated my “parent mode” first thing this morning.

I was sound asleep, when I woke to the sounds of gagging and retching.  Before I was even awake or my eyes were open, I’d grabbed the cat, had him lifted off the bed, and was patting his back to try and help him get over his retching.  Mark on the other hand, well he has a non-existent “parent mode”, he confessed this evening, he heard it, knew I was dealing with it, so ignored it.

*SLAP*

Mulder spent the rest of the morning lying around the house in a general malaise.  Not drinking, not eating, generally just not being his happy self.  Even feeding him water via syringe ended up in nothing more than a puddle of foamy clear puke on the carpet.  Joy!

So, off to the vet for blood tests, urine samples with the outcome being a bill for almost $300, a sub-cutaneous fluid injection and anti-nausea medication, also sub-cutaneous.  I could have done with one myself when I saw the bill, then off to the pharmacy to get some anti-acid pills, which he’ll now have to have a quarter of daily.

Sigh…  Oh well, he’s happier, and hopefully will be happier again by the morning.

After all that though, I need an early night.

Nite!

Play date

Filed under: Family & Friends, General, Pets — Craig @ 7:47 pm

Since I blogged early yesterday, and was too lazy to blog again last night, I didn’t get a chance to mention the play date that the dogs had yesterday.

My trainer and his wife came over in the afternoon with their dog Cody, a rat terrier, of similar size to our dogs, and the three of them were introduced.

It took a few minutes, but it wasn’t long until the games began.  Cody would pee, then Dolce would sniff and over-pee on it, then Vita would walk up and sniff, and over-pee too.  Of course then Cody would go back and sniff…  and you get the idea.

Once that was out of the way, the three of them instigated a huge game of chase around the yard.  It’s good to see them getting along so well, as there’s a very good chance they’ll be seeing more of Cody soon on a more regular basis.  Currently he goes to work with his owners (my trainer and his wife), and he gets to sit in the car until he goes or a run at lunch time, then back to the car until they finish work.  It’s not cruel, they work a short day, it is however, pretty damn boring.

Since they pass our house on the way to work, and since we live so close to the gym, literally running distance, as I’ve run it with my trainer, I’ve suggested they drop him off during the day.

Introductions over, we all headed down to the local off-leash dog park.  A huge expanse of land, specifically designated for dogs.  There are balls to be used, poop bags readily available and even several terraced areas down to the river for the dogs to drink from and swim…  Being a nice day, I took Dolce and Vita down to the water, and threw them in.  *laugh*

They loved it, swimming back to shore, jumping out and dashing around like mad things and jumping all over me with their newly wet and muddied paws.  Of course after they rolled in the dirt, I threw them straight back in to wash them off.

They had a blast!  Fortunately yesterday was a nice day, and warmer than previous days so they didn’t suffer from their adventure.

So that’s it.  Yesterday re-capped.  Today has been pretty unexciting, house chores, laundry etc…  Now it’s time to call it a night…

It’s a night! ;)
