Sad reunion

20 08 2008

I got the phone call I was dreading this morning.  Mulder had been found.  Or all that was left of him.Mulder

Symbolically all that remained was a paw.  Which is fitting as regardless of where he sat when he sat with you, he always had to rest one paw on you.  Just to be touching at all times.

So, while it’s tragic and sad, we finally have an answer, he was killed by a coyote, just as we expected, but at least now we’ll not be left eternally wondering.

I’ve decided to have his paw cremated, and his ashes returned to Australia where he was born.

Mulder you were the best of friends, much more than a pet and a cat, you were my little buddy.  We’d been though so much together.  Everyone who met you, loved you.

There were times in previous houses where we thought we’d lost you, only to hear a knock on the door late in the evening, and find you safe in the arms of a neighbour.   You’d wandered into their house to share your love, and spend an evening on their couch.  They’d carry you home, so your paws wouldn’t get cold.

There was even a morning when another neighbour came over to tell us she’d stepped out of the shower to find you curled up on her bed looking up at her.  When we moved away, other neighbour’s bought you farewell gifts, while we, "your staff" got no more than a cursory goodbye…

You’ll always be in our hearts and memories.

Mulder; 24th October 1995 to 10th August 2008.  Rest in Peace.

I’ve shared this poem before, and I’ll share it again, as it’s never been more appropriate than now; Rainbow Bridge.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.  Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent.  His eager body quivers.  Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…
