The Grass Is Always Greener

4 11 2010

Today has been a pretty amazing day weatherwise, especially given that pretty much everyday for the three weeks we’ve been back from Australia it’s rained, rained, and then rained some more.

Perhaps I’m an optimist but last night I replaced the blades on my lawn mower, something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, but until my recent trip home to Australia, have been unable to do as the blades we need aren’t sold over here in America.  Our mower is from Australia, we brought it with us when we moved.
Needless to say, while we were home recently visiting family, I bought enough sets of blades to replace the existing ones, and have a back up in the garage, just in case.

All that aside, for only the second time this year, I’ve mowed my lawns.  This was the first time that I got to use the lawnmower to do it.
Earlier in the year I was pretty ill with congestive heart failure, which thankfully I’m recovering from, so the grass got pretty tall.  Tall enough that the only way to cut it was with the whipper snipper.  Which took THREE DAYS!  Argh!

This time around, it took three hours, and courtesy of all the rain, and a friend who has an obsession with nice lawns and sprinkled the patches in mine with grass seed in my absence, I have bright green manicured lawns again.

I even raked the leaves.  Not that it mattered, the moment I finished the wind picked up and the two huge deciduous trees we have (one in the front yard, and one in the back) dumped a “bajillion” leaves again rendering my efforts void.

Oh well!

That’s another job done, well two really, and now I can relax! Smile
